UTM's Centre for Emerging Energy Technologies is the focus for real-life applications of initiatives for new technologies in energy.

CEET History:
In 2003/04, under the banner of Grow Smart, Grow Green, UTM became involved in the area of emerging energy technologies and the need for a cohesive Canadian approach to commercialization of these new products. That involvement added energy to the ongoing drive to improve campus sustainability and ameliorate the overall environmental impact of campus development. It quickly became apparent that any national push toward commercialization of emerging energy technologies, including fuel cells and renewable energy sources, was sorely lacking in focus. The notion of UTM as a microcosm for the pressures of urban growth evolved into a vision that will realize the potential of UTM to act as a much-needed platform for the application and evaluation of a wide range of new energy technologies. Operational in its first iteration, the Centre for Emerging Energy Technologies is the focus for this initiative, providing important future potential as a platform upon which research, teaching and public education initiatives may be built. The Centre has become actively involved in realizing the Grow Smart, Grow Green vision and has successfully spawned a number of initiatives.
