The federally funded, Anti-Idling Campaign was initiated by the Department of Transportation and Works in City of Mississauga. Environment students championed the project at UTM and worked on the initiative in the following ways:
- Collected data and carried out interventions by handing out windshield stickers and information cards at GO stations and schools
- Performed a study of City Hall employee participation
- Researched bus idling
- Students submitted a report for the Environment 400 course on the above matters
- Students worked with the administration to make UTM an anti-idling zone, with signs
